Weekly hotels top five of five - Cambodia

Next week sees the start of the sixth annual Angkor Photo Festival, welcoming photographers and artists from across Asia to the Angkor Photo Gallery from November 20.

Angkor, famed for the huge temple complex Angkor Wat, is already Cambodia's best-known destination - over a million people visit every year to marvel at the complex, the largest religious structure on the planet.

It's believed that visits to Cambodia are growing at a rate of 25 to 30 percent annually, climbing from just over a million in 2004 to well over two million in 2008 and expected to go even higher this year.

In 2008, the most recent year for which statistics are available, Koreans accounted for the majority of visitors, followed by Vietnamese, Japanese, Americans and Chinese.

Phnom Penh

With some luxury options by international brands such as Raffles, it's no surprise that the average rate of the top five hotels in Cambodia's capital is slightly higher than the rest of the country. Despite this, the moderately priced "the 252" hotel topped the list, with visitors describing it as "a great place to stay in Phnom Penh".

Siem Riep

As the gateway to Angkor Wat, Siem Riep is one of Cambodia's most visited cities - many tourists will skip the capital in favour of a direct journey to the city from Thailand or Vietnam. As such, it boasts an impressive hotel selection, topped by the Sojourn Boutique Villas, which were described as "the most amazing hotel I've every stayed in" by one visitor.
