Raheem Sterling praises Sancho's England display

Borussia Dortmund are willing to listen to offers for Jadon Sancho as early as January after a breakdown in relationships, with most of England’s top clubs closely monitoring his situation.

One source described it as “war in all directions”, with the player wanting to go, and the club now wanting to sell.

Sancho’s status at Dortmund after a superb first season has deteriorated rapidly, with the hierarchy now considering another hefty fine, after more disciplinary issues. The Independent has been told the 19-year-old was late for a team briefing and a training session before Wednesday’s 3-1 Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

This follows a suspension in October after he returned late from international duty, amid a spell where he has fallen out of favour.

Dortmund were similarly “furious” about his camp looking to force a move early, given there had been an agreement to let him leave during a summer window if a suitable bid came in. The club are proceeding with a certain caution due to a delicate current situation, however, as they consider sacking under-performing manager Lucien Favre.

One reason they have refrained so far has been because they haven’t yet decided on a successor of suitable international pedigree. While that could influence Sancho’s future, they have changed stance and are prepared to listen to offers in the winter window.

Dortmund had previously given Manchester United a flat no when the Old Trafford club bid for the forward last year, looking to wait at least another season, although it is understood Sancho himself was not that keen on the move.

That is something else that is likely to have changed, due to how bad the current situation has got. United would consider another bid for a player of such talent and such a young age, while Liverpool are keeping a watchful eye. His former club Manchester City have also asked to be notified of developments, especially with the injury to Leroy Sane, and the German’s mooted departure.

Real Madrid have similarly kept in constant contact with Dortmund about Sancho, especially since their right-back Achraf Hakimi is on loan at Westfalonstadion, and they are aware the Bundesliga club would like to make that a permanent deal after an impressive spell from the 21-year-old Moroccan wide player.

Dortmund would still want a fee of over £100m for Sancho, but their hand has been weakened by their own willingness to sell.
