From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

England's women are on the brink of securing a place in next year's World Cup in Germany. Tonight they defend a 2-0 advantage in Switzerland in the second leg of the play-off for the finals, and England are overwhelming favourites.

Captain Faye White led England to the quarter-finals in 2007 and the final of the European championships last year and is determined to cement the side's growing reputation.

"This is going to be my last chance so I want to relish every moment of it," said White ahead of tonight's game in Wohlen. "If we do qualify for the finals, that's what my life will revolve around until next summer," she added. "World Cups are so special. It was unbelievable in China. Switzerland are a decent side with some dangerous players," she said. "They'll come at us with all guns blazing."

White will line up in what is likely to be an unchanged England team. The first half will be screened live on the BBC Red Button from 6pm and the second half is live on BBC Three.
