Paul Ince has been appointed Blackpool manager on a one-year rolling contract.

The appointment will see the former England international working alongside his son Tom, who is among the playing staff at Bloomfield Road and the club's top scorer this season with 17 goals in 33 games.

Ince, who took his first training session at Blackpool's Squires Gate this morning, said he is relishing the challenge ahead.

“It’s great to be here. Considering I’ve watched the team play for the last 14 months, it’s strange sitting here as the manager, having obviously watched Blackpool as a fan as well as watching my son play.

“I’m over the moon though and delighted, it’s great to be back on the training ground and great to be involved with, and in charge of, a great bunch of lads.

“I’ve worked with a lot of players and the spirit and togetherness of the lads is absolutely fantastic. I’m glad I’ve been given the opportunity by Karl Oyston.”

The appointment brings to an end a lengthy search to find a replacement for Michael Appleton, who left for Blackburn in early January. The Seasiders will also hope today's appointment will bring an end to the uncertainty at the club, who also saw Ian Holloway leave for another club earlier in the current campaign.

Ince, who has had spells in charge of Macclesfield Town, MK Dons and Blackburn Rovers, has not managed since he left Notts County almost two years ago.
