Hull moved back into the automatic promotion positions in the Championship with a 2-1 victory over Derby, thanks to a late winner from Ahmed Elmohamady.

Mohamed Gedo put Steve Bruce's side ahead shortly after the break with a close-range header, before Jamie Ward levelled with six minutes remaining. Elmohamady's header regained the initiative for the Tigers to give them a first home win since December and take them to within eight points of leaders Cardiff. Gareth Roberts was sent off for Derby with a minute to go.

Elsewhere, Middlesbrough ended a run of five straight league defeats with a deserved 1-0 victory over Leeds United at the Riverside, Curtis Main looping a header over Paddy Kenny after 80 minutes, before later being sent off. Despite progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup, Tony Mowbray's team have fallen away from the top of the Championship, but overcame a spirited challenge from Leeds to take the points.

Main shot just over for the hosts in the opening half-hour, while Ross McCormack went close for the visitors. Chelsea loanee Josh McEachran impressed for the home side but they struggled to find a way past Kenny in the Leeds goal before Main's late header.

Brighton & Hove Albion came from a goal down to draw 1-1 at home to Blackburn, a result which leaves both clubs just outside the play-offs. Scott Dann headed Michael Appleton's improving side ahead midway through the first-half, before Vicente levelled from the penalty spot shortly before the hour. The hosts' goal was the first conceded by Rovers in five and a half hours but Appleton's side have now lost one in their last 10 matches.
