Trump: 'I'm a very stable genius'

Donald Trump signalled the launch of his latest online tirade by randomly tweeting the phrase “A Very Stable Genius”.

The US president appeared to be quoting someone else quoting the comments Mr Trump first made in January 2018. in response to questions about his mental health.

He followed it up with a “thank you” to his mystery admirer, amid speculation he was spending his Saturday morning watching Fox News in bed.

“What is wrong with you?”, replied one social media user. Another commented: “Nothing says mental stability like blurting out random tweets like this.”

Mr Trump went on to attack TV host Joy Reid, an hour before the start of her MSNBC show.

“Who the hell is Joy-Ann Reid?”, Mr Trump asked. “Never met her, she knows ZERO about me, has NO talent, and truly doesn’t have the ‘it’ factor needed for success in showbiz.

“Had a bad reputation, and now works for the Comcast/NBC losers making up phony stories about me. Low Ratings. Fake News!”

It is not clear what provoked the “very stable genius” to criticise Ms Reid, more than a week after she accused Mr Trump of “blatant kleptocracy”.

The TV host claimed Mr Trump ”has turned the presidency into a travel agency servicing the Trump Organization” and was “grabbing money constantly”.

Mr Trump moved on from Ms Reid to boast about recent Republican wins in North Carolina before adding: “2020 is a big, and very important, Election. We will WIN!”

He ended his 9am outburst by tweeting in capital letters his favourite slogans ”Make America great again” and “keep America great”.

Mr Trump first used the phrase “very stable genius” on Twitter on 6 January 2018 following the publication of a book which portrayed him as a man of questionable intelligence who spent his evenings eating cheeseburgers in bed, watching television and chatting to friends on the phone.

“Actually, throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart,” the president responded.

After boasting about becoming president on his first try, he added: “I think that would qualify as not smart, but genius....and a very stable genius at that!”
