Cheaper items hit hardest by rampant food price inflation, major survey finds
Many everyday groceries have more than doubled in price over the last year as the cost of own-brand items continues to rise, according to consumer group, Which?
Budget and own-brand ranges have seen higher rates of inflation than premium and branded counterparts overall, according to its analysis of more than 25,000 food and drink products at eight major supermarkets: Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose.
Staples such as milk, meat and fruit have also seen the biggest price hikes, it found.
