A law student will go on trial today accused of murdering his father.

The dismembered body of Samuel Alexander, 70, was found in the garden of his home in Drayton Parslow, Buckinghamshire, in February, days after neighbours reported him missing.

They had become concerned when they realised they had not seen the university lecturer during the previous six months.

The last sighting of Egyptian-born Mr Alexander, who was also known as Samuel El-Kalyoubi, had been on September 4 last year when a tree surgeon had given him a quote.

His son Mark Alexander, of Fleet Street, London, will appear at Reading Crown Court today for the murder trial.
