Car ramming incident sparks 20-man street brawl in Scotland

Police say vehicles were smashed together 'deliberately' by suspects in lead up to fight

A mass brawl involving at least 20 men is thought to have been sparked after two cars deliberately rammed each other at a roundabout in Scotland.

The incident took place on the Redhouse Roundabout, near Glenrothes in Fife, at around 8pm on Friday evening.

Police Scotland said an Audi A4 and a Honda Civic had rammed each other on purpose, before a “large scale” fight broke out shortly afterwards in nearby Balbeggie Avenue.

Meanwhile, a separate incident occurred within a few minutes of the brawl, around two miles away in the village of Thornton, when a BMW was involved in a collision with a Hyundai car.

Following the crash, a number of men police believe were in possession of weapons fled from the BMW on foot across fields.

“This was a large scale disturbance involving a number of individuals who we believe to be known to each other,” said DCI John Anderson, of Glenrothes Police Station.

“A number of specialist Police Scotland resources were deployed to the Thornton area on Friday night and we are asking for the public's help to identify and trace those involved.

“We suspect that a number of additional vehicles will have been in the area containing others involved in these incidents at the time that these took place, and we are eager to trace them as soon as possible.”

Police found the Audi car burnt out a short time after the incident, which the damaged Honda and BMW vehicles have also been recovered.

The force said it was now trying to establish the movements of all the drivers and passengers of the cars in the lead-up to the brawl.
