Superdrug has released the world’s first edible tanning supplements nationwide.

People go to extreme lengths to achieve the optimum tan in the lead up to summer.

While some methods, such as tanning beds, are extremely dangerous, the most recent tanning trend to have hit the market is undeniably unusual.

UTan and Tone has developed gummy bears that when consumed, can supposedly help anyone with pale skin achieve a perfectly golden tan.

The Tan Gummies have been made using vitamins, minerals and essential plant nutrients including lycopene, lutein and astaxanthin.

By taking two of the gummy bears a day as a food supplement for the first two to three weeks, people can supposedly achieve a “deeper, darker, longer lasting tan”.

It’s important to note that this product doesn’t contain SPF, so consumers using it must also protect their skin adequately using sun cream.

According to UTan and Tone, the process of swallowing tanning supplements ensures quick results.

“Tan Gummies allow potent actives to be held in the buccal cavity for a considerable time, resulting in ‘direct absorption’ through the membrane in the cheek walls,” UTan and Tone stated.

“They include EFSA approved ingredients for protecting the skin from oxidative stress; helping with the formation of collagen in skin and the maintenance of normal skin pigmentation.”

Online reaction to the release of the tanning gummy bears has been mixed.

Some people have expressed their cynicism, while others have expressed their dismay that the product is already sold out online.

“Superdrug have got gummy bears that give you a tan ladies our prayers have been answered no more orange hands and waiting four hours to develop,” one woman tweeted.
