Boris Johnson says he’s ‘interested’ in Harry and Meghan’s interview but won’t be watching

Boris Johnson has been quizzed about whether he is interested in Harry and Meghan’s upcoming tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey.

The prime minister was asked whether he cared about the interview and whether he would be watching it during a visit to a vaccination centre in Brent on Sunday morning.

Mr Johnson answered: “Of course I’m interested in all sorts of stuff around the news around the world.

“I think it’s quite late our time so I’ll probably miss it.”

Harry and Meghan’s highly anticipated interview airs on Sunday night on CBS in the US (at 1am GMT Monday), and at 8pm on Monday 8 March on ITV in the UK.  

Harry and Meghan will delve into their split from the royal family during the two-hour interview.

The Queen reportedly will not be watching and will “ignore” the interview, according to The Sunday Times.

Royal courtiers have branded the interview “a circus” and palace advisers are said to be “prepared to retaliate with fresh disclosures about the couple’s behaviour if the monarchy is attacked”, the paper reported.

Hours before the interview airs in the US, a programme featuring the royal family will be broadcast on BBC One to mark Commonwealth Day.

The programme will air on BBC One from 5pm and will be available to an international audience on the BBC’s YouTube channel. 

The programme will feature an address from the Queen and will see Prince William and Kate speak to Dr Zolelwa Sifumba, from South Africa, an advocate for the rights of healthcare workers on the front line.

On Saturday, the Queen was photographed during filming for the programme.

The head of state was pictured in St George’s Hall at Windsor Castle wearing a blue dress and silk and wool cloque jacket designed by Angela Kelly.

In the photograph, the Queen is wearing a chrysanthemum brooch, made from sapphires and diamonds set in platinum, on her left shoulder.

The 94-year-old was also pictured wearing the item when she was seen out with Prince Philip on the couple’s 73rd wedding anniversary in November, and during the couple’s honeymoon in 1947.
