The big mistake that couples make when marrying overseas

This minor slip up could haunt your wedding photos forever

The perfect overseas wedding conjures up an image of an idyllic ceremony swathed in the warming colours of the sunset, walks along a sandy beach and the most romantic, Insta-worthy photos imaginable.

However, there’s one big mistake that couples planning to exchange their vows in warmer climates should avoid if they hope to enjoy a stress-free wedding in the sun.

While it may be all too tempting to make the most of the sunshine in the days leading up to the ceremony, an expert has advised placing your sunbathing plans on the back burner until after you’ve said “I do”.

“We encourage those getting married to avoid the sun as much as possible just before the big day,” said Marsha-Ann Brown, director of romance at Sandals resorts.

“It’s really easy for people to go overboard with sunbathing especially in the beautiful Caribbean, but we warn them not to.”

Brown, who works at Sandals resorts in Jamaica, usually recommends that couples head to the indoor spa the day before their wedding, rather than spend time outside under the sun’s glare.

That way, brides and grooms with lighter complexions can steer clear from looking like smartly dressed lobsters on the day of their nuptials.

This isn’t the only useful advice that Brown dished out.

She also suggested that couples think carefully about the types of materials that they choose to wear on their big day.

“I’d always advise lighter fabrics - because it is going to get hot and sweaty,” she told The Sun.

“If you have a huge, dream dress that you want to wear then that is absolutely fine. But I’d suggest an outfit change for afterwards.

“Men should pick linen suits in paler shades. These will look better in the wedding photos, too.”

The number of couples choosing to tie the knot overseas is on the rise, claimed a report recently published by tourism company Kuoni.

According to the report, Mauritius was revealed as being the most popular wedding destination for 2017 and 2018.
