The Girl Scouts have introduced a new breakfast-flavoured cookie to the excitement of dessert-lovers.

On Tuesday, the Girl Scouts of America announced the addition of Toast-Yay! to the 2021 cookie line-up, a cookie that will look and taste like miniature French toast.

“Each delightful, toast-shaped cookie is full of French toast flavour and flair and stamped with the trusted Girl Scouts’ signature trefoil on top,” the cookie’s description reads.

According to a representative for Girl Scouts, the name is meant to be a play on the word “toasty”.

“The name is designed to be a play on words for ‘toasty,’ which evokes the warmth and joy we believe people will associate with this great new French Toast-inspired flavour,” the spokesperson told HuffingtonPost.

"’Toast’ draws on the cookie’s unique toast shape and attributes of French Toast, and ‘yay!’ celebrates joy - the joy that Girl Scout Cookies bring to consumers, and how Girl Scouts create moments of joy as they use their cookie earnings to support their communities and donate cookies to frontline workers and local causes.”

The cookies, which will be available in “select areas”, according to the Girl Scouts website, can be purchased online during the pandemic. The Covid-19 outbreak caused this year’s selling season to be ended early.

“In the 2021 season, Girl Scouts will again be selling cookies through online platforms and innovative ‘virtual cookie booths’ on social media (with parental supervision),” the representative told the outlet.

“Many girls will offer socially distant or contactless sales and delivery options. If local guidelines allow, in-person sales may also be available in certain areas, keeping girls’ safety top priority.”

On social media, the introduction of the Toast-Yay! was met with approval from people eager to try the new flavour.

“Yet another thing to look forward to in 2021…” one person tweeted in response to the news. Another said: “The new Girl Scout French toast-flavoured cookies look exquisite.”

Girl Scout cookie season, which features well known options such as Thin Mints, Tagalongs, and Do-si-dos, kicks off across the US in January.
