Asymmetric cuts are 2018’s answer to the off-the-shoulder trend
Off-the-shoulder tops continue to rule the market – much of which can be attributed to the Duchess of Sussex’s penchant for a bardot cut – but those growing tired of the sexy-meets-sweet style will be glad to hear that there’s a new, edgier neckline in town.
This season, collars are going asymmetrical with one shoulder being neglected entirely in favour of a silhouette that dances around your décolletage for an off-balanced look well suited to the warmer months.
You see, while off-the-shoulder tops can be impractical, riding up on your arms throughout the day, this trend is stress-free, stylish and thus a silhouette you’re going to want to incorporate into your everyday summer wardrobe.
Not just the reserve of nights out on the town, these are pieces that needn’t be restricted to after-hours activities alone.
Whether the next few months are bustling with summer soirees and beachside lunches or you’re going to be relegated to the boardroom all day long, you’re going to want a one-shoulder dress or blouse in your arsenal.
For work, your best bet is to opt for more structured and shirt-inspired details which pair nicely with wide leg trousers or pleated midi skirts.
Alternatively, off-kilter tops at parties call for the bottom half to be reasonably simple, so an A-line mini or high-waisted jeans will suffice.
Or, for a touch of glamour you could take your inspiration from the runway where the likes Calvin Klein, Fendi and Delpozo all showcased a series of stunning gowns that wrapped around models’ shoulders and twisted at their collar bone.
Whichever way you choose to wear yours, remember to keep the rest of your look simple and sweep your hair off your shoulders for the big reveal.
