The Duchess of Sussex‘s wedding dress designer has polarised the internet with her latest bridal offering.

On Tuesday, Givenchy‘s Clare Waight Keller debuted her latest couture collection for the French fashion house. Couture fashion shows traditionally include a wedding gown as the final garment.

This season, that finale piece was showcased by model Kaia Gerber, who walked the runway in a strapless broderie anglaise gown with a tiered neckline.

But the most innovative design on the garment was its heart-shaped backing that was attached to the back of the dress and billowed out onto the runway in the form of a lace train.

The dramatic design prompted mixed responses after Givenchy posted a photograph of Gerber wearing it on Instagram.

While many followers praised the gown as a piece of art, describing it as “wonderful” and “sublime”, others were baffled.

“My toilet seat looks so good here,” wrote one person.

“Not feeling this one,” another added, suggesting Waight Keller “drop the ‘egg-pod’”.

Gerber, who has modelled for Givenchy before, posted her own photograph from the show on Instagram, using the caption to describe how honoured she felt to be chosen by Waight Keller to close the show.

“Closing Givenchy Haute Couture. @ClareWaightKeller you have left me completely speechless.

“Words will never begin to express my gratitude and appreciation for this moment.

“Thank you to the incredible atelier and everyone who worked so hard to make this so special.”
