Trailer for Westworld season 2

Westworld is finally back after a lengthy 15-month wait, so fans are forgiven for forgetting key details going into what looks to be a thrilling second season.

Taking centre stage in the premiere episode - titled 'Journey into Night' - was Bernard Lowe (Jeffrey Wright) who viewers first see wake up on a beach in the wake of the climactic events which saw the host uprising sparked by a bullet to the back of Dr. Robert Ford's head by Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) who is finally conscious and making her own deadly decisions.

Bernard immediately finds that Delos has overtaken control of the park - situated, as we learn from Head of Operations Karl Strand (Gustaf Skarsgård), on an “island” - and, fortunately for him, the revelation that he himself is actually a host seemed to die with both Ford (Anthony Hopkins) and Theresa Cullen whom Ford instructed him to murder in season 1.

Only there's actually one living character who knows he's not a human - Felix Lutz (Leonardo Nam), a member of the Livestock Management who helped Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton) to the mainland before she decided to turn around and find her daughter instead. Felix is the one who brings Bernard back to life after he shot himself in the head (again, instructed by Ford) with the character learning courtesy of Maeve in the season 1 finale that the head of Westworld's Programming Division is actually a host.

Felix learned of Bernard's true identity in the season 1 finale (HBO)

This episode sees Bernard attempting to procure his true self from Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) with a particularly intense scene sees him take a syringe from an inactive host which seems to prevent him from crashing. He also must try to stay focus as he witnesses numerous members of Delos gunning down his kind in cold blood.

Should any of the characters Bernard is currently with - including Stubbs (Luke Hemsworth) and new character Antoine Costa, (Fares Fares) - learn of his past, the character's fate will be thrown into the balance. It's unknown whether Nam is set to reprise the role of Felix, but the last viewers saw of him was in the elevator as Meave headed for the train ahead of the uprising.

Viewers also shouldn't forget one other human character who may know the truth about Bernard considering she was almost taken out by him last season: Elsie Hughes (Shannon Woodward), who is confirmed to appear in season 2. Quite how she factors into proceedings remains to be seen.

Westworld season 2 debuts on HBO in the US and through Sky Atlantic and NOWTV in the UK.
