Late last year, the fourth season of Narcos added two excellent cast members: End Of Watch and Ant Man actor Michael Peña, along with Diego Luna, best known for Rogue One.

Netflix has now offered a first look at both the actors as their new characters, revealing some details about the upcoming season, including the show’s new name: Narcos: Mexico.

Whereas the three other seasons took place in Columbia, the upcoming batch of episodes will take place in Mexico and will “explore the origins of the modern drug war by going back to its roots”.

“Witness the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel in the 1980s as Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna) takes the helm, unifying traffickers in order to build an empire,” reads the official synopsis.

“When DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña) moves his wife and young son from California to Guadalajara to take on a new post, he quickly learns that his assignment will be more challenging than he ever could have imagined.”

Earlier this year, a location scout for Narcos — Carlos Muñoz Porta — was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds near San Bartolo Actopan, an area said to have some of Mexico’s highest murder rates.

The first two seasons focused on drug kingpin Pablo Escobar and — while creators originally designed to just focus on him — they decided to name the show Narcos so the series could outlive Esboar’s death.
