From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Fearne Cotton has announced that she will be leaving Radio 1 after more than a decade as a DJ on the station.

The 33-year-old presenter revealed the news in a statement on her official website, which you can read in full below:

I have had the most incredible decade broadcasting on Radio 1, meeting wonderful people, helping break artists and watching live music from the world’s best.

However it is now time for a new chapter.

I would like to thank Radio 1 for being such a great home and most of all to the listeners who have been on this journey with me. It's such a kick to know you heard a band on my show first, or that the songs I've played have helped you through the day, so thank you.

I will leave with the best memories and many great friends.

Here's to family and new adventures.

Fearne xx"

Cotton follows her former colleague Zane Lowe out of the doors of Radio 1, after he confirmed his decision to quit earlier this month.

Lowe is leaving to join Apple, which is rumoured to be creating a new music streaming service.

"I want to thank everyone at Radio 1 for their support and friendship," his statement read. "The station has allowed me to share incredible music with the country's best music fans. I've loved every minute of it. Exciting times lie ahead."

Annic Mac, presented of Radio 1's flagship dance music programme, will be taking over Lowe's 7pm-9pm week-night spot.

It is not yet known who will be replacing Cotton, who hosts the Radio 1 Live Lounge.
