Evangeline Lilly has claimed she was intentionally injured during a stunt that went wrong on the set of Lost.

The Canadian star, who appeared in the cult hit series as Kate Austen, revealed that she flayed the skin off both of her forearms accusing an unnamed “misogynistic” stunt co-ordinator of punishing her for wanting to do the stunt herself against his wishes.

“There were open wounds, pus-y and oozing,” she told an audience during a Fox panel about women in the stunt trade. “I looked like a mutant. My mom said, ‘You’ll never be able to wear an evening gown again."

Deadline reports that the stunt in question saw Lilly having to roll off a thick tree branch and hang on for dear life, a moment which occurs in the show's sixth and final season. She added that she was harnessed to the branch eliminating any chance of falling. Upon requesting a light fabric used in stunts to prevent abrasions, she was told no because the viewers would “see it.”

Lilly claims she was then instructed to perform the stunt repeatedly without any protection over her arms, the bark ripping her skin with each take.

“I felt it was him saying, ‘I’m going to put you in your place for standing up to me,’” she added. “It was either cow to his power or hurt myself. I was in my 20s then. Now, I would probably back down.”

Lilly will next be seen playing the titular Wasp in Marvel sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp alongside Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer. She was joined on the panel discussion by her stunt double on the film, Ingrid Kleinig. The film will be released in the UK on 3 August.

Earlier this year, Quentin Tarantino came under fire after a video was released showing Kill Bill star Uma Thurman participate in a stunt that led to a car accident.

Lost ran from 2004 to 2010. Lilly starred in the series alongside an ensemble including Matthew Fox, Josh Holloway, Yunjin Kim and Elizabeth Mitchell.
