Justice League - Trailer 2

There's one specific disappointment fans may have had with Justice League: where was Superman's black costume?

To explain, Henry Cavill perked a few interests when he posted an image of a black and silver outfit for his character on Instagram many months ago, presumably an echo of The Death and Return of Superman arc from the comics.

According to cinematographer Fabian Wagner, in an interview with Inverse, there were actual scenes shot utilising the black suit but they never made the final cut. How did they fit in with the larger narrative of Justice League? Will they ever come to surface? We may never know.

Wagner also revealed that "quite a few scenes" were dropped from the film's theatrical release, adding: "Zack [Snyder] takes his time with telling the stories, and I've always liked that about his movies. There are a few scenes that I was very much looking forward to seeing which unfortunately got cut."

One scene he directly mentioned was actually included in one of the film's trailers, which saw Alfred (Jeremy Irons) telling a character off-screen, "They said you'd come. Let's hope you're not too late." Presumably, he is talking to Superman, though many at the time guessed it could have been the introduction of Green Lantern.

"It was a great scene to shoot," he added. "It was one of my favourites and also didn’t make it."
